Some Refurbished Xooms Could Put Personal Data In The Wrong Hands
Maybe it was too thick, maybe it was too heavy, maybe you just didn?t like Honeycomb. Regardless of your reasoning, you may want to keep your eyes peeled on your credit score if you bought and returned a Motorola Xoom between March and October 2011, because your personal information may be in someone else?s hands.

Due for New Phone in a week
I’m due for a new phone in a week. I currently have the incredible and it’s OK. I will not be rooting the phone and I use it mostly for text/email. My biggest problem with the incredible is the size. I don’t want anything much larger than it.
I’d like to hear opinions on what’s the best…

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000 not booting up
I have a "Toshiba Satellite A205-S5000" running Windows Vista 32 bit that is not booting up.
When I click the power button the fan turns and it looks like its about to boot, but then it shuts off. Sometimes I am able to boot the PC like normal, but then it shuts itself off. It has a mind of its own sometimes I am actually able use the PC but the rest of the time it wont even boot up.
I have no idea what’s going on with the laptop. Any ideas?

Amazon: Video Game Revenue Down, Physical Book Sales Up
Amazon CFO Tom Szkutak offered more details this afternoon during an analyst earnings call about the company’s disappointing fourth quarter When it comes to physical media, Szkutak said the biggest hit to revenue came in the area of video game sales, which includes both console and game sales (but not games sold digitally, say from Amazon’s app store). Even though he didn’t offer specific numbers on that front, he noted that video games sales are seasonal and normally take a big leap in the last quarter of the year ? and that did indeed happen this year, but not enough to match 2010 revenue. In part, that’s because more of those sales are going to Amazon’s third-party sellers, rather than Amazon itself. So video games units were up, while revenue was down.

IDC: Nokia, Samsung, Apple are the new top 3 handset makers
The latest figures are in from IDC: the top three global smartphone makers are Nokia, Samsung and Apple, in that order. Drilling down into the figures finds some surprises: Cupertino’s third-place with only 8.7 percent of the market, while the giants of Korea and Finland are duking it out with 22.8 percent and 26.6 respectively. LG and ZTE are tied for fourth, but that’s hardly good news for Goldstar, given that it’s lost a staggering 42.2 percent of its market share in the last twelve months (Nokia was the other loser, eating 8.2 percent). The cause for the drop is in part the world’s rejection of feature-phones (dropped faster than fashionistas rightly abandoned Ugg Boots and Jeggings) as millions upgraded to smartphones. After the break we’ve got the tables in full for anyone who wants to have their mind blown at the sheer quantity of handsets shipped in the last year, both financial and calendar.

Is this the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus? Leaked benchmarks suggest new 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos processor
Pinch of salt time. As mobile manufacturers polish up those final test models ready for us to pore over in just a few weeks, someone’s possibly jumped the gun. What you’re looking at here are apparently benchmarks from the Galaxy S II Plus — yep, another incremental step-up for an existing Samsung device. According to the results, the phone will carry the same resolution screen of the original (800 x 480), but will purportedly be the first device to carry a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos processor — placing it just ahead of even the Galaxy Note. Unfortunately, the benchmark read-out also lists Android 2.3.4 for the phone — a little old (and unlikely) when we’re seeing version 2.3.7 if not a leap to Ice Cream Sandwich. Benchmark results featuring a Galaxy Nexus with a 2GHz processor (possibly overclocked) has also got us all kinds of suspicious. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this one.

A Boeing 727 Will Be Buried In The Mojave Desert

Folks, we’re going to need a bigger shovel.
As part of an exhibition for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, Swiss artist Christopher Buchel plans to bury an entire airplane beneath the sands of California’s Mojave Desert, Jaunted reports.
Buchel’s aircraft of choice: a Boeing 727.
The land art installation, called “The Terminal,” will be buried 38 below the surface.
Visitors will be able to enter the aircraft through an underground passageway that allows them to view the subterranean landscape. Thankfully, the windows will be reinforced and any hazardous materials including jet fuel will be removed before the plane is buried.

FlatFrog Offers Up A New Multitouch Table
We saw a few touch-tables at CES, and while the Surface remains the gold standard, not everyone loves the price, form factor, or size. There’s room for competition, and FlatFrog, based in Sweden, is hoping to break into the market with a new 32″ device. When it comes to touch, there are a few different methods of detecting fingers and objects. Most common now is capacitive, which is on most smartphones. Then there’s resistive, which isn’t quite as responsive. Samsung created one for the new Surface that embeds tiny photosensors between image pixels. And FlatFrog uses yet another method.

Redbox refuses to push Warner movie delay to 56 days, will rent flicks as they go on sale
Two years after bending to Warner’s demands and delaying its kiosk rentals 28 days in exchange for lower acquisition costs and a steady supply of Blu-ray discs, Redbox announced the agreement has expired. This comes as a result of Warner’s desire to extend the delay between the time movies are available for purchase to the time they can be rented in kiosks or by subscription to 56 days, and instead Redbox will go back to buying the studio’s movies at retail — coincidentally, it has renewed its lease agreement with Walmart for 3,700 retail locations for three more years. While that means more expense and possibly unsure supply for Redbox — we’ll wait and see if retailer interference is an issue again — the good news for consumers is that for the time being, they’ll have the choice of renting as soon as movies go on sale. The first flick affected by the new reality is A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, so until Warner backs off, or Redbox blinks once its streaming service comes into play, then go forth and enjoy those $1.10 rentals freely.
[Thanks, Stephen]

PowerDVD 12 brings syncing and transcoding for mobile devices
It’s been less than a year since CyberLink revealed PowerDVD 11 and now along comes PowerDVD 12. Among the new features in 12 is the ability to sync media — we can only assume this excludes protected content — to PowerDVD Mobile for Android as well as automatically transcode videos for most of the popular mobile devices. Said mobile clients are only free, though, if you opt of the $99 Ultra version of PowerDVD. PowerDVD Mobile is available for everyone else for $19.99, as well as PowerDVD Remote for $4.99. Overall it seems like an iterative update that might not hit the spot at $45 (for an upgrade), but there are other new features like OGG and FLAC support that might just push you over the edge.
